Blackpool Tower Pylons

Paris Pylon

I don't mean to be negative, but the Eiffel Tower, pride of Paris, has never struck me as being that impressive. Then again, I've been to Blackpool, where at least there are pretty lights to make things interesting.

On the other hand, I've always quite liked pylons, they seem to me like strange aliens striding across the landscape, and somehow I have always felt they were friendly and had our interests at heart.

Most people think of them as being ugly monstrosities - and from the health and environmental point of view there are definitely questions - but why is the Eiffel Tower such an object of admiration and the pylon of scorn?
